ABOUT
Inspired by a range of Jazz icons from Miles Davis, Bill Henderson and Cal Tjader to Carmen McRae and Lena Horne, magnetic Jazz vocalist Larry Davis is best known for his bold, expressive showmanship. Born in Modesto, California, but raised in Des Moines, Iowa, entertaining was an early gift from his father who was a professional bass player and his maternal grandmother who was a great story teller. Davis first expressed his love of music by singing in his elementary school choir. His first taste of Jazz performance came as the lead singer for a Jazz quartet out of Little Rock Air Force Base, while he was serving a four-year stint with the United States Air Force.
A college degree in Art from the University of Iowa led to an alternative four-decade career away from the limelight, as a graphic designer for Disney/ABC Television in Los Angeles. In 2004, an interest in singing and performance was sparked once again which led to recurring club gigs in Los Angeles, New Orleans, Des Moines and elsewhere.
Embarking on a solo recording career in collaboration with producer/engineer/mixer, Annie Miles (Studio MRM), Larry Davis recorded his debut album Close Your Eyes in 2011. This was followed by Larry Davis Too (2014), Touch (2017), and most recently, Dreamin This Dream Together (2021).
Bringing his fresh and innovative interpretations of classics from Jazz, Blues and the American Song Book to a devoted fan base, he has been a durable and beloved fixture on the Los Angeles club scene for over a decade and a half.
